For women who had pain relief during labor & delivery?
Ok, I have 8 1/2 more weeks to go until it’s time. So if you had an epidural, demerol, etc, please let me know how was your L&D? What pain relief did you have and how effective was it? Thanx

I had an epidural. It helped ALOT! LOL. I didnt get it until about 14 hours into labor, when the pain really started to get bad. I then had to have an emergency c-section,, so then I got demerol. The only complaint that I had was that I couldnt start shivering once I got the demerol. I wasnt cold, just this uncontrollable shaking, but they said it was normal. It eventually wore off about 30 minutes after the surgery.

I had an epidural and I didn’t feel a thing.
I was going for all natural, but 5 cm into labor I was in horrible Pain. I got an epidural and felt so much better! I know somep people are scared of the big needle and what not, but honestly, you’re already in so much pain from contractions that you don’t even feel it at all. It was sooo effective. Good luck:)
Congrats!
I had an epidural. I asked for it when I was 5-6cm dilated. I just could not take the pain anymore. The epidural was fast and easy. Now, it isn’t a walk in the park. But it is nothing major. I felt pain relief in minutes.
Effective… well, it numbs you from the waist down. So it is pretty effective.
Had a smooth L&D with no probs.
I had an epidural with my 1st, and will again with my second. It is the best invention ever. I was in labor for 2 hours before the anesthesiologist made it over to me, and it was such sweet relief when I finally got it. It numbs you from your stomach down, and they let it wear off enough when it’s time to push to feel the contractions. Such a life saver. I had no bad reaction or anything from it.
I had a spinal and it was great
and wore off quick enough also
epidural, 2 hours maybe but it wasn’t bad at all. I wanted to go natural but I wanted happy memories too. I don’t like pain much

I had an epidural and regret it every single day but not because I had that “need” to give birth naturally. I decided to try for natural but if I couldnt do it, I wouldnt beat myself up for it. I now have this lump on my back that needs to be drained surgically long story short. It hurts, I am in pain and wish I was stronger during labour. As long as that doesnt happen to you, go for it!
i had an epidural after my labor was induced…it worked vrey well i felt no pain just an urge to push when it was time
As soon as i got to the hospital they started an iv and gave me nubain. This is more of a calming medication and it worked wonders. I have panic attacks regularly so i was absolutely terrified when i got to the hospital. After a while of being in labor, i got an epidural. It was a bad experience. The anesthesiologist messed up and ended up sticking me three times with the needle because he couldnt get it in the right spot. I couldnt feel when I had contractions so I didnt know when to push. Then after all that, the epidural wore off before she actually got there…they gave me more which conveniently kicked in right AFTER the delivery so it wasnt much help at all. After the delivery i had what they call a hot spot from the epidural in my knee and my right knee was completely numb until the day that I left the hospital. I couldnt go to the bathroom or walk around or anything. I dont think I’ll be getting and epidural this time…..I hope this helps!
I had to get two epidurals because the first one didn’t work but I was induced and they were giving me pitocin to make me contract, so needless to say my labor was 21 hours long!! I pushed for 2 and a half hours and my son was finally here! It was very exhausting, but all worth it. I would say the 2 epidurals definitely made my labor longer because I couldn’t feel anything! So if you can go natural that is really the best thing. Good luck & hang in there!
I had an epidural, only after being in labor for about 9-10 hrs. I was in so much pain and I have nothing to prove so I took the drugs, After the epidural I felt wonderful! The rest of the labor (6hrs) wasn’t too bad at all. I had back labor with my first and couldn’t tell when my contractions stopped and started, felt like a long contraction for 10 hrs before the epidural. I also had to be induced since I was 2 wks late, so I have heard that makes for a longer labor. Good Luck
I had nubain and phenergan with my first – made me loopy but I still felt pain. I just didn’t care about it.
I then opted for an epidural but it took so long for them to get to me and to get it in and for it to take effect that I had to start pushing as soon as I laid down from the epidural – the head was coming out.
This time I’m going to ask for it much sooner, but there IS a risk that it won’t be all that effective.
My daughter had an epidural after being in labor so long.. Due to the doctors neglect.. Anyhow she didn’t feel a thing..
WIth my daughter i had pethidine and gas and air which i thought was great, even though i planned on going natural but it didnt happen lol. Labour and delivery, great no complications at all. She was 8 pound 9 ounces no stitches. So over all i had a good delivery. 37 weeks with number two hoping its deja vu all over again
Forgot to add, was in labour for 7 and a half hours
